            Custom-made Ceramic
            and Glass Components

Technical porcelains consist of a mix of alumina and silica. The mixture can be varied to produce two distinct types of porcelain:

            • Quartz, or silica, porcelain - where there is a higher proportion of silica in the mixture.
            • Alumina, or aluminous, porcelain - where there is a higher proportion of alumina in the mixture.

Aluminous porcelain is the superior of the two forms and has higher strength than quartz porcelain, but is more costly. Both forms are extensively used in the electricity industry. Aluminous porcelain is also still commonly used to make simple, shaped technical components and can be easily glazed if required.

            Characteristics of porcelain include:

            • Good electrical insulation properties, even at high voltage
            • High mechanical strength
            • Good chemical resistance
            • Can be used up to approximately 1100°C

Goodfellow Ceramic and Glass Division is able to supply a wide range of ceramic and glass materials as finished components. Our capabilities range from custom-made precision microcomponents with very high tolerance features to large heavy-duty components used in industrial applications. Additionally, standard semi-finished forms such as tubes, rods, bars, plates, crucibles and spheres are often available from our wide inventory. Please contact us with full details of your requirements, including drawings where available, and we will review and respond with a quotation as soon as possible.
